4 /5 Michelle: My experience at Kame House left me with mixed feelings. Arriving on a Saturday night with high expectations for both the cuisine and service, I was initially disappointed when the waitress simply gestured towards empty tables instead of leading us to our seats. This lackluster start set the tone for a service that, while adequate, didnt quite meet the high standards I anticipated from a restaurant with prices on the pricier end of the spectrum.
Thankfully, I had the foresight to book a table online, as the restaurant quickly filled up after our arrival at 6:30PM. I would highly recommend booking online, especially for those travelling from afar to dine here!
Moving on to the food, my husband and I opted for the Signature Kaisendon ($95) and the Next Gen Chirashi ($145). Both dishes were served in set menus alongside chawanmushi and miso soup. While the chawanmushi was delightful, we were slightly disappointed that it didnt come with the fish roe topping wed seen advertised on their social media.
I ordered the Signature Kaisendon, which impressed with its blend of flavours and textures. The white soy foam surrounding the rice and assortment of sashimi added a unique twist, and the portion size was satisfying.
However, it was the Next Gen Chirashi that stole the show. Despite its hefty price tag, this dish lived up to its reputation. The variety of fish meticulously arranged over a bed of chewy rice was a culinary delight. Additionally, weve read reviews about the sea urchin being not fresh, so we werent sure what to expect, but it was definitely fresh when we had ours ++ My only critique would be the slightly lacking rice-to-fish ratio, which left my husband still feeling hungry after his meal.
Presentation-wise, the dishes were impeccable, showcasing the fresh, thoughtfully crafted ingredients. The dessert, a yuzu jelly, provided a refreshing conclusion to the meal.
The ambiance of Kame House was nice and cosy, with traditional Japanese decor adding to the tranquil atmosphere. However, as the restaurant filled up, the noise level rose, making conversation challenging toward the end of our meal.
In terms of value for money, while the quality of the food was undeniable, the prices felt inflated given the portion sizes. Nevertheless, Kame House offers an authentic and creative Japanese dining experience thats worth a visit, especially for special occasions.
Overall, while there were some hiccups in the service and pricing, Kame House delivers on its promise of high-quality Japanese cuisine in an elegant setting. Just be sure to book ahead and temper your expectations accordingly.
