5 /5 Ricky Pann: Im a foodie whos a huge fan of Greek Food and tradition. My fathers Yeeros is on a busy strip, a modern reimagining of the traditional Greek Yeeros (firmly rooted in the OG Illawarra Rd Marrickville owned by his father).
The food is on par with Marrickville.
A great indication of quality is how packed this place gets, especially with actual Greeks.
Whats the food like?
I had a Chicken & Lamb mixed plate (shared with my partner)
The Lamb was succulent and cooked to perfection.
The Chicken was also excellent. The meat portion on the plate was plentiful.
The Chips!! They are hand-cut (hard to find nowadays in the era of frozen food) and a specialty.
The Greek salad was delicious. It had plenty of good-quality olives and feta and was dressed perfectly.
The plate was served with pita bread; you could choose tzatziki or hummus. Overall, the food was high-quality, delicious, and very "Greek."
The "My fathers Yeeros" experience.
Measure your expectations for the whole experience as they occupy the space between a takeaway food bar & restaurant.
Firstly, dont compare this place to "Brothers Kebabs or your local snack pack place"; its like comparing spaghetti to a hamburger.
Secondly, this place is busy, so dont expect instant high-churn gratification like McDonalds or Kebab shops. Good things come to those who wait.
I noticed negative reviews saying onerous and ridiculous things about the food. Its nonsense. The food is excellent. Dont buy Uber Eats delivery and expect a fresh food experience.
Dont listen to people with clueless, uneducated palettes who have written a couple of complaints reviews. These people are the scourge of food reviews and cloud-great businesses selling great food.
I spoke to the owner, who was very friendly and welcomed my questions about his family and the menu (Im the hand-cut, chip-obsessed guy with the glasses). Despite the Facebook noise, yes, his dad was the original owner of Marrickville Yeeros for 30+ years, and yes, he maintains quality.
The service is friendly, the place is clean, and the prices are pretty good. They do takeaway or dine-in. Seating is hard to get but not impossible when its busy (Thursday through Sunday). Outside kerbside tables next to the carpark are a bonus.
Overall, after my second try, I rate “My Fathers Yeeros” highly. Judging by the crowd, they are onto a winner.
