4 /5 Diwa Venkata: I recently dined at Rangoon Colonial Indian Restaurant and had a lovely overall experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm colonial-style ambience — high ceilings, vintage décor, and a touch of old-world charm that instantly makes the setting feel special. The staff were courteous and attentive without being intrusive, offering recommendations with genuine enthusiasm.
The menu is extensive, showcasing a mix of classic Indian favourites alongside some more unique, regional dishes. I particularly enjoyed the entrée of lamb seekh kebabs — juicy, well-spiced, and beautifully presented. The butter chicken was rich and creamy, with a depth of flavour that clearly came from slow cooking, and the garlic naan was soft with just the right amount of char. The highlight for me, however, was the Goan fish curry; fragrant, tangy, and perfectly balanced with coconut undertones.
That said, a couple of dishes leaned a little heavily on cream and butter, which, while indulgent, made them slightly rich for my taste. I would have preferred a touch more spice in some mains, especially given the vibrant potential of Indian cuisine.
Portion sizes were generous, and the food came out at a steady pace — enough time to savour each course without feeling rushed. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality of ingredients and the overall dining experience do justify it for a special night out.
Overall, Rangoon Colonial is a great choice if you’re looking for refined Indian dining in an elegant, nostalgic setting. It’s not quite perfect, but the atmosphere, service, and standout dishes make it worth visiting — especially for those who appreciate a slightly more sophisticated take on Indian cuisine. I’d happily come back, particularly to try more of their seafood specials.
