5 /5 Gregory Long: One of the best burgers I have tasted!
I just thought I would start with that as that is really key to my review. Mind you, it was expensive, so it should be excellent.
OK. Let’s discuss the entire experience. I booked online at their web site which was really easy and where I could comment whether it was a special event (it was my wife’s birthday). The day before there was a confirmation SMS. We arrived on time, parking at the Cronulla Parking station about 5 minutes’ walk away. On reception, my wife was wished a happy birthday. So that was nice. We ordered starters of bread for three, cocktails, and mains (two burgers and a grilled barramundi). They forgot the bread!
Now I thought this was great, from a reviewing perspective. People make mistakes. Everyone does, including me. The mark of good service is how those people recover from the mistake. In this case, excellently. Profuse apologies and the bread for free. Yes, it did end up arriving after the mains, but such is life. The waitress went out of her way for us to try to compensate. So in my books, A+.
The food. That burger, as I said, was one of the best that I have ever enjoyed. The meat was char-grilled perfectly. The bacon was lovely as were the lettuce and tomato. They also used a non-traditional sauce, not the traditional tomato based one (ie. sauce or relish). Also, the buns were real bread and not that overly sweet brioche that is currently ruining so many burgers. Yum.
This restaurant has sophisticated yet casual feel to it, a warmth and charm to use that tired old phrase. But it really does, I had a great time here. And we were sat right near the window where we could enjoy the view of Cronulla beach. Superb. Though a tad pricey, we will definitely visit again.
