1 /5 Ashleigh Anderson: Really disappointing experience
I attended the 7:30am Form class this morning at GRIPT with my partner and my friend.
When we walked in, we were greeted by Olivia who was lovely and walked us through the gym and explained where everything was. After that, the experience went downhill from there.
When the class started we moved into the centre of the room and the “coach” Josh (I think his name was) started running through the warm up and by running I mean he read out the exercises on the screen with no explanation provided. I called out to him and told him that we were new, and didn’t clearly understand how the session was to run. He introduced himself to me and my partner but completely ignored my friend until I also let him know it was her first time also. Very rude.
After the warm up, we moved onto the main workout. The session was as follows:
A1) Deadlifts
B1) Front squats
C1) Cable flys
C2) DB bench press
D1) DB pull overs
D2) DB bent over row
There was no explanation of how to properly execute a deadlift or a front squat, both exercises are challenging compound lifts that have quite a few moving parts to them.
During the session, I was often asked to add a 3 second eccentric to the exercise, there was no tempo programmed in the session and I felt like he was just telling me to do this so it looked like he was actually “coaching”. There was also no indication of the rest breaks between exercises so the whole session felt really rushed as we didn’t know how much time we should be taking.
There was also not enough space to run through the session as it was programmed so we ended up doing deadlifts at the end of the session when we were fatigued, this is not smart programming.
After the session, no one acknowledged us or asked for any feedback and we just walked out without being welcome back for another session.
