1 /5 L Kretzschy: I took my 2008 Yaris Rush in for its 170k service today at Le Mans Tottenham. Ive had the car since brand new, and have had it serviced exclusively at Lemans for around 7 years now. Previous to that it was always serviced by Werribee Toyota. I was advised by the service team that the brake fluid appeared dark, and they recommended a brake fluid change. As the brakes are a key safety system I approved the brake fluid change. After around 2 hours I was advised the service was complete. One thing Ive always noticed with Le Mans after every service is the dash camera has been disconnected from the 12v socket. TBH Ive never had any intention to go back and watch where or how my car has been driven, but now Im wondering if they actually are trying to hide something. When I drove the car out the driveway I immidiately thought the brakes felt like they required a little extra force for the car to stop. Given the fluid had just been changed, I figured it may feel a little different, but I thought I would see how it felt the next time I braked, and so proceeded with a lot of caution. Once on Geelong Road I soon realised I needed to apply a lot of pressure in order for the most minor braking, if I had to stop in an emergency situation I was in trouble. Thankfully the car is manual so I was able to gear down to assist in slowing the car. I turned around as soon as it was safe and returned to the dealership. I can tell you its not a pleasant experience driving on an 80km/h road not knowing if your brakes are going to hold up. The service tech took the car in and I could see it on the hoist as they were working on it. My only regret in hindsight was I didnt get a photo of the brake fluid level after I pulled back into the dealership. I watched the service tech work on my car for around 30 minutes, I noticed them pour a whole 500ml bottle of brake fluid into the reservoir! Once they had finished the tech drove the car out, walked in and handed me the keys, and pretty much said the lines werent bled properly, your good to go now, bye! I was a little shocked by the experience given this is a serious safety issue, so I asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with Cody and asked how this could happen and what they would do to ensure it doesnt happen again. He pretty much said that the lines hadnt been bled properly, it should be all good now. They ask the techs to do a thorough test drive but sometimes they only drive a short distance. Honestly, I was taken back by the nonchalant response. It wasnt like I was talking about a bad wash and chamois job. Honestly, Im not convinced that any meaningful corrective action will be put in place to stop such a thing from happening in future, and so I wont be servicing my car or my wifes Rav 4 there again.
