5 /5 Taylor Mifsud: When my daughter Audrey first started Jiu Jitsu, she was incredibly shy and hesitant. As a child with ADHD and ASD, adapting to new environments and engaging in a highly physical, hands-on sport like Jiu Jitsu was a major challenge. But from the very beginning, the team at Nakama—especially Jess—made all the difference.
Nakama has become so much more than just a gym; it’s truly a second home for Audrey. She now attends every class with excitement and dedication, and on the rare occasion we can’t make it, she’s genuinely heartbroken to miss out. The transformation weve seen in her has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her confidence has grown, her social skills have improved, and her passion for Jiu Jitsu shines through every time she steps on the mat.
Thanks to the unwavering support, patience, and encouragement from Jess and the entire Nakama team, Audrey is thriving. Her progress—both in the sport and in her daily life—has been remarkable. Its hard to believe she was once that nervous, withdrawn little girl. Jiu Jitsu has become a powerful, positive force in her life, and we credit much of that to the incredible environment the Nakama team has created.
We are endlessly grateful. Thank you for giving Audrey a space where she feels safe, supported, and empowered.
