2 /5 Vizag2Melbourne: We visited Chef Saab in Caroline Springs to celebrate my wife’s birthday. While the menu looked promising and the staff were polite, the overall dining experience fell short of expectations.
We started with virgin mojitos, which were refreshing and enjoyable. However, things went downhill from there. The masala papad was disappointing—I expected a single large papad with generous garnishing and proper toppings, but instead we received four small masala papads with very average flavour.
Next, we ordered the chaat sampler. The menu described it as samosa, aloo tikki, and papdi chaat. What arrived, however, was samosa, aloo tikki, and papdis drenched in yogurt and multiple sauces. Everything was dripping, and the yogurt itself didn’t taste fresh, giving a tanginess that made it difficult to enjoy either the samosa or the aloo tikki.
For mains, we had naan and a soya chaap curry. The naan was fresh and nicely made, but the curry was just average—nothing memorable.
The restaurant also didn’t leave the best first impression; when we entered, there was a mild but noticeable smell in the air. Some better ventilation or freshness measures would definitely help improve the ambience.
Overall, Chef Saab has potential but needs to improve significantly—both in food quality and presentation, as well as ambience. I would rate it two stars. If you have no other options or can’t find a booking elsewhere, it’s an acceptable place to dine, but not one I’d prioritize.
