1 /5 Nila P: I’m quite shocked and disappointed by the experience I had with Jade during my recent appointment. This was my second session with her. The first time I explained to her that I had ingrowns and to take care while waxing. The experience was completely pain-free. While she came across as a little aloof I didn’t think much of it as not everyone is naturally chatty. However, she made an underhanded comment about my skin tone at the end of that session which in hindsight was inappropriate, but it didn’t fully register at the time.
When I returned for my second appointment, her demeanor was noticeably cold. From the beginning her energy felt completely off. During the session the waxing was unusually aggressive and painful. She was pulling upwards and tugging at my skin. Despite my high pain tolerance, I left with burning skin. Days later, I noticed my skin healing in patches, something I’ve never experienced in my years of waxing.
My experience felt racially charged and in my view, was a form of microaggression.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously, not only to improve client care but also to ensure all customers, regardless of their background feel safe, respected and treated with professionalism.
