(2) Reviews Great North Walk - Berowra Waters to Cowan:

Sean Nairn This section of the Great North Walk offers some of the most challenging terrain of the entire walk, with a number of large climbs and descents. You are rewarded with extensive bush and water views and the peaceful sounds of the Australian bush. There is no water on the track so you will need to fill up at Berowra Waters or Cowan. Camping is available at the Ridgetop Campground at Berowra Heights.

Chathu Kularathna Moderate difficulty trek along the great north walk. Trek have signs indicating the path. But I recommend to download a map before going if you are not familiar with the trek. Careful of the leeches, slippery surfaces. Path is muddy, wearing hiking shoes is really recommended. No place to get drinkable water.

Av I wish read the comments in the reviews because I didn’t come prepared at all, beautiful hike but the leaches!!!!! Was getting off my shoes every second, they come off easy but be aware.

Elena Arena Gorgeous. I did the segment of the Great North Walk from Hornsby Heights to Cowan. 20.75 km; elevation gain 800m; total time 8h49 (moving time 7h52) The route starts on McKay Rd with a fire trail easy to follow but then it meets the Great North throughout an unmarked path (it is signaled by little towers of rocks) so keep an eye on your app. Km 3-9 are mainly flat and run along the Berowra Creek, really beautiful. After that youll find a bit of moderate up and down (eg about 150m), take your time it might be slippery. The last part (from Berowra Waters to Cowan) is the most "wild", moderate difficulty but practicable by everyone. The Great North is pretty well maintained and clear to follow but I recommend using a map (Google doesn’t have the full route) to be sure of staying on the right trail. First facilities (toilets, drinking water, as well as shelters, bins and bbq) after 6km, at Crosslands Reserve (accessible by car). Other toilets at km12 in Berowra Waters. Flush toilet at Ridge Top Campground but not drinking water (to the person who left the bottled water there: THANK YOU!). Toilets and drinking water at Cowan station. Did it on October 6th and did not meet any leaches.

Sam Sam This lookout is a nice walk from berowra station and has good views. This also has sitting arrangements so if you feel tired you can sit and have coffee (BYO) while looking at the creek. Within one kilometer you can access the Coles supermarket and cafes in Berowra village market.

Yacaabah A MUST VISIT! The view over the surrounding Berowra Valley National Park is breathtaking and will not disappoint. Its also a good place to have morning tea/lunch for those hiking the GNW. Accessible via the Great North Walk and Berkley Trail (which takes you back up to Berowra Heights and Berowra Train Station). Really enjoyed this lookout and would strongly recommend.

Ally NV Really beautiful lookout. Free parking, not many spaces though. Kids playing area and picnic benches before a brief walk to the lookout. If you go around the fence you can walk down a bit further for a better view, just be careful!! No one else was there when we visited on a Sunday, very peaceful.

Denzel Patel Nice lookout, not busy and quiet. there is a childrens playground and few parking spots so may just need to park on Wyanna street. There is a sign that says no drones allowed but no one to enforce it - just be careful of the eagles.

Ditta Illessy Love the look out any time of the day it is gorgeous. My favorite is in the morning when the fog is still stuck in the valley and you can not see the river from the fog. Doable with wheelchair, kids and only a short stroll from the car park if you are not keen to go to far for a nice view. Lovely playground and table for picnic at car park as well.

Anshul Nice place but not the best for the sunset.

Kia Kalantari An amazing view over the area!!! Easy and short walk from the car park with plenty of sittings. There is a playground nearby which makes it attractive for families with kids. Its open sunrise to sunset. Highly recommended!!!
