1 /5 ian McAllister: I took in a Tag Chronograph that I have owned since new from 1988. The 1/10 and hour dial hands had stopped working and I also wanted a complete service. After 4 weeks I went to pick up my watch. I noticed that the dial hands had not changed their position and the watch did not work. The bill was $695.00 for work that had clearly not been done. The lady told me that the watch repairer always does a fantastic job and would not listen to me. I insisted the watch be serviced and repaired properly. 4 days later my watch is ready. At least this time the watch seemed to be working. However the bracelet was still very dirty and the case back still had dirt in the recesses used for undoing the back. I am very doubtful that a proper service was carried out and will now have to take my watch into Max Schweizer to get the watch checked out. Very expensive to start with and a complete waste of $695 as I dont trust the work was done properly.

1 /5 Robert Johnston: BEWARE I received a recommendation from a trusted college, whom had also received a high recommendation to engage Ramsden Jewellers of Roseville, to repair their very valuable antique watch. My experience in having an antique clock repaired, is the antitheses of a delighted outcome sought. Far from it! I was quoted and stupidly paid several hundred dollars. A very high upfront fee to have my antique clock repaired. This was prior to any analysis of what the issue actually was, and without any indication of any possible costing’s of replacement parts, to have the clock running again. After many months and my chasing, I received a gleaming clock, but on return home it did not run for more than about twenty minutes at a time. I immediately returned the clock to Ramsden Jewellers. They suggested that the conditions in which it was housed and treated were less than ideal. It had run faultlessly for many many years in its current display position. It was also strongly suggested that the upfront fee was for a clock restoration, not a repair. They agreed to send it back for repairs following their observation at the Ramsden Jewellers premises, that it would not to continuously run. Following another long period, a gleaming ticking clock was presented on their counter and I was told that “old things wear out” and they had done all they are prepared to do! Unfortunately the glowing word of mouth recommendation I received, had expired long long ago! I now have a gleaming but static, antique time piece. Not the outcome I had sought! Fortunately my trusted college did not submit their antique watch for repairs at Ramsden Jewellers. I hope this prevents future disappointments. Bob Johnston February 2022
