1 /5 S J: I enjoy learning new forms of physical activity, so I visited this studio to ask a few questions and take a quick look before deciding whether to join their pole dancing membership. I first stopped by on a Thursday during the hours listed on Google, but the door was closed. When I reached out, I was told an instructor would be there between 6:15 and 6:30pm on Friday before class.
From the message, I understood that while the instructor wouldn’t be available during class, it would be fine to ask a few quick questions beforehand. So I arrived at 6:15pm as suggested, expecting a brief and friendly exchange—not a full conversation. Instead, I was made to feel like an unwelcome guest. If speaking before class wasn’t possible, I’m not sure why I was told to come at that time.
The instructor asked if I was registered for class, and when I said no, she just said, “This is a pole studio,” without offering any help or information. She seemed annoyed, repeated that she had to prepare, and clearly wanted me to leave. She also told me to send any questions by phone instead.
I understand she was busy and under time pressure, and that answering questions might not have been her responsibility—but the way she treated me felt cold and dismissive. After that experience, I have no interest in returning to the studio.
