5 /5 Ellen MW: Around four months ago, I came to Body Concert nursing a persistent shoulder injury and mourning the closure of my previous Pilates studio. I was looking for an inclusive, mindful space to practice authentic Pilates, and after 25+ classes, I’m still blown away by how much Body Concert has exceeded my expectations.
The studio itself is a pocket of calm, full of thoughtful touches like complimentary tea, water and relevant reading material. But the best thing about the space is how welcoming it is.
As someone in a larger body who has, more than once, felt unwelcome in yoga and Pilates spaces, I cannot overstate how refreshing Body Concerts approach is. From my very first class, I felt safe to move without judgment. I’ve been going to group classes with Kasia and Liz, who are knowledgeable, warm, welcoming and attentive. They offer modifications with grace - I never feel singled out or patronised. Instead, everyone in the room is celebrated for their focus and strength. Liz has been especially supportive, tracking my progress and offering transformative insights that have helped me understand the way my body moves.
No two classes are the same, and each one blends theory with creative, impactful movement. Afterwards, I leave feeling stronger, more mobile, mentally refreshed and empowered with a deeper understanding of my bodys capabilities. I’m not sure if I’ve actually grown taller over the past few months or I just feel it, but I feel on top of the world.
Thank you to the team at Body Concert for providing such a joyous space and expert instruction.
