3 /5 Ali: I want to share my honest review of Extreme Martial Arts Gym after being a member for almost two months.
Front Desk & Member Services
I’ll start with the front desk and member service team — I’d give them 5 out of 5. They’re very good at what they do: articulate, cooperative, and friendly.
Facility
The gym is well-equipped with everything you need for a solid training session. You can tell the materials and equipment are high quality.
Coaches
I trained in wrestling, and Coach Kosta is clearly experienced and a high-level wrestler. I learned a lot from him. However, I do wish he would intervene more often during technique drills to correct mistakes — this would help ensure students aren’t repeating the same errors. I believe he mentioned that its not always possible due to time constraints. I’d rate the wrestling class 4 out of 5.
I also attended two BJJ classes with Jordan. He’s genuinely dedicated to teaching and does his best to accommodate everyone. His instruction is clear and beginner-friendly. I’d give those classes 4.5 out of 5.
Why I Left
I decided to stop training at Extreme Martial Arts mainly because of an incident involving their head coach, Paul.
One day, the wrestling coach (Kosta) didn’t show up, and Paul stepped in as a substitute. I was hoping the gym would’ve notified us ahead of time so members could decide whether to attend or not. Paul wasn’t actively coaching — he was more supervising, and the more experienced teammates ended up leading the session while the rest of us followed.
We were drilling some wrestling techniques, and I was struggling with one in particular. Instead of approaching me professionally to help, Paul started yelling at me in a very rude tone from across the mat. His tone was so unpleasant that one of the experienced teammates actually stepped in, asked Paul to stop, and came over to show me the correct way to do the technique. I was honestly shocked and speechless. It was extremely rude and unprofessional behavior, especially coming from the head coach with years of experience. It ruined the session and made me uncomfortable and disappointed .
To make things worse, Paul left 15 minutes early, right before the freestyle wrestling portion of class. That part of training is particularly important for a coach to supervise, as it’s when injuries are most likely to happen. He left with no explanation, and didn’t even formally end the class. We were left to continue freestyle sparring with no coach present. Therefore, I refused to freestyle sparring.
After giving it some thought, I decided to look for another gym — one that prioritizes professionalism, kindness, and safety.
Please note: I will be shipping the Muay Thai equipment back to you, as I have not opened or used any of it. Thanks
