5 /5 Rowan Peter: My children have both trained at MTC Ringwood, and it’s been an incredibly positive experience for our whole family. My son trained all the way to black belt and has since moved on, but he still values everything he gained through the journey — the discipline, confidence, and sense of achievement have stayed with him.
My daughter has been training at MTC Ringwood for 6 years, starting when she was just 6 years old. She’s now 12, a black belt with two stripes, and working toward her third. She’s also a trainee instructor and trains in BJJ and boxing — a journey that started right here at MTC Ringwood.
What really sets this club apart is the family-friendly, inclusive environment. There’s a real sense of fun with intent. The instructors are not only experienced and highly ranked in a range of martial art styles beyond taekwondo — many of them actively compete — but they’re also genuinely invested in every student’s growth. The club fosters a strong culture of personal responsibility and commitment — to themselves and to each other — and that sense of integrity really resonates with our family.
When my daughter first started, she couldn’t complete a class for the first six months. It was a big hurdle, but we persisted, and the support from the instructors was constant and encouraging. Years later, when she earned her black belt, so many people in the club celebrated with us — they remembered where she started and how far she’s come, now even competing in full contact sparring tournaments.
As a parent, I really appreciate the thoughtful communication and sense of community. The club organises movie nights, outreach programs, and local demonstrations at school fairs and council events — and members are encouraged to attend, represent the club, and support each other.
MTC Ringwood has been a cornerstone of my daughter’s development in confidence, fitness, and resilience. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
