3 /5 Mix D: This is my honest review of Reload Physio after five sessions. In short, I think I had the wrong expectations of what physiotherapy would be. While the experience was friendly, it fell short of what I have heard from others at different physiotherapy practices. These were my five subsidised Medicare sessions, so I am less inclined to be too critical. If I had been paying out of pocket, I likely would have stopped after the second appointment.
The first session lasted about 40 minutes and focused on me explaining my issue. Most of this information was already included in the referral, but it seemed it had not been reviewed beforehand. My physio was warm and approachable, offered some initial guidance and exercises, and set me up with an app to follow at home.
The remaining four sessions were spaced about one to two weeks apart and each lasted around 20 minutes. These were mainly discussions and reviews, with roughly five minutes spent on exercise technique. The approach relied heavily on homework exercises. App adherence seemed optional as far as I know, since my progress input there was never reviewed, only discussed in general terms.
For me, much of this could have been done using YouTube videos or physio apps. I do not mean this as criticism for the sake of it, but I now understand why many people turn to online recovery options.
I had expected longer, more hands-on sessions, with extended time in the exercise room and closer observation from the therapist. I saw other attendees receiving this, so I am not sure why I did not. Instead, my sessions felt brief and limited. Five minutes with the equipment was not enough. The structure was usually a quick check-in, a review of the exercises, and then wrapping up. Overall, the approach felt too light and not as thorough or practical as I was hoping for. When I was asked, “What do you want to do this session?” I felt that, for the costs being charged, the therapist should have already prepared a plan before my appointment; are they just winging it each session? It felt like it.
In the end, I do not think Reload was the right clinic for me. If your injury is not life-threatening, you may be better off discussing recovery options with your GP and using online resources such as YouTube or dedicated physio apps.
