1 /5 Kate Stirling: **Since leaving this review, Iāve had a response from the owner advising theyād call me. This hasnāt happened. I was also asked on the initial call with their Customer Service representative if I could consider taking the review downā¦**
Iāve had 3 visits to the Fitzroy salon and 2 of those visits I was really happy with, despite having spent close to $1000. The reason Iām writing the review is because I had to have my hair fixed. I chose a colourist that has over 30 years experience and thankfully charged me half the price of what you can expect to pay at Edwards & Co.
I understood from the start that lightening my hair from black box dye would be a process but my previous visit was also my last.
My highlights were placed by my usual colourist but then I was handed over to a 3rd year apprentice. I completely understand apprentices are learning on the job, but Iām not prepared to pay almost $600 to be left in their hands with such a ādifficultā colouring process. A lot of whispering, laughing and checking on bottles at the colour station went on during the toning process where my usual colourist told the apprentice to ājust use that and keep goingā⦠Honestly leaving me to believe a mistake had been made. Only to be told when I asked the question that they were just joking around and not to worry.
After the final wash, I was left with base dye on my face and forehead and was asked to sit in the chair to wait for the hair stylist.
Iād previously explained to Jas in the 2 minutes sheād spent with me while getting my highlights that I was after layers at the front to help frame my face and wanted some volume. When she finally got around to seeing me, I asked her if weād decided exactly what we were going to do⦠She told me she usually does a consult before colouring but didnāt have time and she would trim the ends, completely disregarding what I was asking for. I explained I wanted more than that and she bluntly asked me āWell what do you want?ā
At this point Iād been sitting in this salon for almost 4.5 hours and told her not to worry about it, I just want to get home. She then asked another girl to help her blow dry my hair. So my head was being pulled in different directions all at the same time and being made to feel that I was not at all a priority, just someone they were rushing to get out the door. I was watching the girl sitting next to me having her stylists full attention as he finished up her hair and not making her feel like a nuisance.
When it came time to pay, I actually cried. To her credit, the lovely woman at the front desk asked why I wasnāt happy and offered to have it fixed. I explained I wouldnāt be coming back and she ultimately didnāt charge me.
My hair, before having it fixed in one session to exactly how I wanted it in the first place, was brassy, not blended, red and with very awful blonde streaks on both side of my head with a huge amount of breakage. I was shown the back of my hair where many pieces were significantly shorter than others due to my hair breaking. It didnāt even look like my hair. It was ratty and dry.
I chose an exclusive salon where I was willing to pay good money for my hair to be looked after. But just like many places these days, you definitely donāt get what you pay for.
