4 /5 Ashlee Jayde: The Peter Scullin Reserve is a beautiful spot, perfect for a family day out. With beach access and all the amenities you could need. There’s plenty of space, with shaded areas among the shrubbery to stay cool on warm days and a variety of little gazebos and shelters. The balance of open beach space and storefront access is ideal. Right beside the road, there’s also a park packed with play structures for kids to explore, making it a perfect beachside destination close to Melbourne.
There used to be a popular bar and bistro, Sunny Boys, right on the beachfront, but as of October 2024 when I went, it was undergoing renovations. Fortunately, there’s a small stall near one of the car parks by the pier entrance that serves great food and drinks, making it a convenient lunch stop. In warmer months and on weekends, an ice cream truck makes regular rounds in the area. For those who want to bring their own food, there are plenty of BBQ facilities, and shops across the road offer additional options or a place to pick up snacks.
The beach is very accessible from the reserve. The nearby lifesaving club provides an extra layer of safety during the warmer months, and the calm bay waters make it a safe, family-friendly spot. You can also change in either of the two toilet blocks at opposite ends of the reserve, however they aren’t super well maintained. There’s also plenty of taps to wash your feet and get a drink of water for you or a pet. If you’re looking for a fantastic day out in the sun, Peter Scullin Reserve is a great spot!
