Dev This is a return track. You can start from Grosvenor Street in Wahroonga (off street parking on Grosvenor road, no toilets) or Murrua road in north Turramurra (free parking, no toilets) or Appletree Bay picnic area (paid parking, picnic area facilities) in Mount Colah. One way length of the track is 5 or 6 kms depending on where you start. Wahroonga end has a flat walk and steps, North Turramurra end has flat walk and then descent which is steep and rocky while the Appletree picnic area is a Boardwalk. The track itself is mostly narrow, has some signs but prepared for navigating branches, trees fallen in the way, big rocks, pointy plants, occasional mud or a pool of water. The track runs mostly parallel to Cockle creek on one side. You can also get down to the creek level but may have to climb up the rocks to get back to the proper track. There are some places where the track does not exist and you have to walk over big rocks or through a narrow gap between giant rocks. The whole area appears to be a dense forest. There are plenty of photo opportunities. Whatever I have described in this review can be seen in the photos. Although the track is graded 3, be prepared to navigate difficult parts of the track. Theres another small return track called Rainforest track which is about a km one way. 26 May 24: Started from the Wahroonga end. Be aware that after coming down the steep steps you need to cross Lovers Jump Creek over the rocks. These rock have small groves to help step through the rocks over the creek and continue with the track to the other side. I have added the elevation profile of the track captured with Google Fit. You can see the steep descend of almost 200 meters at the start of the track and the syeep ascend on return You can also reach the Gibberagong track using public transport. Sometimes a section of the track may be closed so check out at www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au before starting.

sweta nair Beautiful bushwalk with a mix of well-formed and unformed paths, offering a peaceful and secluded escape into nature—perfect for those who love a little adventure!

Gavin Jones The Gibberagong walking track in Ku-ring-gai m National Park is a scenic bushwalk that offers a mix of lush bush land, mangroves, and sandstone ridges. The trail is well-shaded, making it a great option for a relaxing nature walk. Some sections can be muddy, especially after rain, but the overall experience is rewarding with a variety of native flora and fauna. Perfect for families, nature lovers, and those looking for a quiet escape close to Sydney.

F Liu Beautiful nature walk along the waterways, highly recommended to bring sufficient water & snacks. Can get muddy after rain. The hike out to North Turramurra is a steep gradient and longer than you think.

Ivor Oorloff 2 hours walk, beautiful scenery, steep climb up to the wahrunga end, lots of big lace monitors and water dragons .

Mike Vasavada Great Park for families with kids! Heaps of play areas, tennis courts, kids slide, cricket oval, bbq area and a quick outdoor basketball and table tennis area. Park is great to talk your four legged friend for a walk too around the oval (on a leash) as per council rules stated.
5 /5
Christina Jain Beautiful park with 4 tennis courts (no lights), a fenced playground for younger kids, two ziplines, a walking track around a rugby field, and clean toilets. Lots of shade, benches, and picnic tables too!

Imges Sphinx Memorial to Bobbin Head loop track

(18) Reviews Sphinx Memorial to Bobbin Head loop track:

Gavin Jones The walk from Sphinx Memorial to Bobbin Head in Ku-ring-gai is a scenic and rewarding bushwalk. This loop track starts at the Sphinx Memorial, a World War I tribute, and winds through beautiful forests, sandstone ridges, and alongside Cowan Creek. The trail features some steep sections and rocky terrain but is generally well-maintained. Bobbin Head offers a perfect halfway point to rest, with picnic spots and water views. It’s a great choice for hikers looking for a mix of history, nature, and a moderate challenge.

Dalila Falcón If you like extremely long difficult walks where you have to climb rocks, cross lakes and wet your shoes, go through muddy and slippery tracks for 3 hours then youll love this. If you like a long flat relaxing walk, this is not for you.
2 /5
Zena Mason Very good walk, well maintained, fun. Parts of it are steep and a little dangerous to navigate, so I would not recommend it for those with walking difficulties. Its a perfect intermediate level hike. Winding down to the water through gorgeous bushland, follows the water line for a while and then straight back up a series of staircases. Down at Bobbin Head, theres a cafe and fine dining restaurant, so save your trail mix for another time!
5 /5
Lidu Nováková the Bobbin Head loop via Sphinx Memorial – such a beautiful trail, especially along the water. Easy trip from Sydney CBD, perfect for a half-day outing. Just a heads up, theres a $12 entry fee to the park, but the views are totally worth it. Had a bit of trouble finding the start, so check with the visitors center for a smooth beginning (its at the marina in the middle of the building :))Highly suggest giving this awesome track a go!
5 /5
Ernie Shepherd To save on the park entry fee, I parked outside the national park, which worked out perfectly. I tackled the loop in an anti-clockwise direction, and I have to say, it was the best decision! The most picturesque part of the walk runs along the river, with stunning views of Cowan Creek. The combination of gorgeous trees and natural shade made it an absolute treat. I took a 30-minute break at Bobbin Head to sip some water and use the facilities, which was a great midway point. The return leg was much simpler—a straight path with not much scenery—but it made for an easy way to finish the walk. Overall, the track was relatively easy, and the whole experience, including the break, took me just under three hours. If you’re looking for a walk that’s accessible and not too challenging, with some truly stunning views along the way, this one’s worth checking out!

Miki Clarke A nice enclosed park which is great for toddlers and little kids with a good amount of shade and seating. The toilet facilities are very modern unlike in most other parks and another plus is the nearby cafes / restaurants.
4 /5
Olivia This park is fantastic. The shade by the deciduous trees provide a safe haven for toddlers and older to play. Not only is there a locked bathroom there is a bbq area, a large patch of grass and the entire boundary of the park is fenced off with gates. You also have Coles not too far away and cafes for a coffee nearby.
5 /5
Leah Roberts Cameron Park really has something for everyone. On one side is a large grassed area, ping pong tables, picnic benches and BBQ facilities. The other side has a well shaded childrens park, which is good for the littles, and bike track. The whole area is fenced so feels quiet safe. You can access the park by train or park on the street. Street parking is timed but free. There is a nice coffee shop opposite the park. The park also has a quirky self cleaning toilet that plays an instrumental version of "what the world needs now" on loop. Seriously its worth just going to the park to experience this.

Ali Nazer Nice, quiet and cozy, there are electic BBQ and Automatic bathroom. Surrounded with buildings and coffee shops. Close to Turrumura station..

Kelly S Great walk. One I will happily do again. Fire trail portion can be monotonous and hot but worth it if you dont want lots of steps to climb. You dont have to take the firetrail section. You can grab a cold drink at the marina or visitor centre.

William Tapia Completed the track in 1 hour and 50 minutes. It was a nice hike with beautiful views of the water along the way. However, be aware that the path includes some unstable rocks and boulders, which might make it challenging for kids or those less confident on rough terrain. Overall, a rewarding hike with a mix of natural beauty and adventure!
5 /5
Kia Kalantari Astonishing memorial built by W.Shirley to honor his fallen comrades in WW1. Plenty of carparks availbale. You may park your car outside the entry booth to the National Park to avoid the $12 entry fee. Recommended!!!

R Kaysar We did the Sphinx Track through the bush and back up via Sphinx Trail, which is more or less a Fire Trail, total loop is appx 2.7km, this loop is technically not available on the track signs for reasons below. The Track starts off the left and is mainly a descent down to Cowans Creek. The Sphinx Track is visible albeit bushy and involves going down a number of steep steps till you reach a tranquil and peaceful creek, just find a spot away from the mangroves to enjoy the peace & quiet. Once you finish taking in the creek views, you’ll have to muster some courage and strength to climb up a steep, and completely unpaved, and off-track area to reach the very end of the Sphinx Trail. Looking up, you’ll see a very large cliff, you’ll need to climb over this to reach the fire trail. I won’t recommend this to someone without some level of basic climbing experience, otherwise just walk back the same way you came. If you took the plunge to climb, you’ll arrive at the end of the Sphinx Trail which will set you up on your return trip back to the parking lot, the fire trail return is again a very steep uphill battle but it’s all along a gravel road.

Jaimie Lee Parking: Entry requires a $12 fee. When I visited at 1 pm, there were plenty of available spaces. Trail Route: The right-side trail is more dynamic and moderate in difficulty due to rocks and large boulders. The left-side trail is relatively flat and easy to walk. Overall Impression: It was fascinating to see the Sphinx right in the middle of the city, which made the park itself feel quite unique.

Peter Lew Pleasant walk from Marsfield to South Turramurra.in the Lane Cove National Park
5 /5
Shaobo Zhang The footpath has been upgraded, but theres not much to see here. It’s just a small bridge over a trickle of water, and the waterhole itself is quite underwhelming. There’s nothing particularly special about this spot. Yes, you can hear birds singing, but the constant traffic noise ruins the tranquility. It’s not the peaceful nature escape you might expect.
1 /5
Vanessa Rowe Great spot to see forest birds incl satin bowerbirds, bell miners, scrub wrens, yellow robins, dollarbirds, whipbirds, red-eared firetails and more!
5 /5
Xiao Zhuo Wen The national park is very large and has streams. There are many types of birds here, but you need to take precautions when entering this area to protect yourself from mosquito bites. There are a certain number of steps. It is easy to go down, but it is more difficult to go back.
3 /5
Margaret It’s a bit noisy being next to a motorway and water is polluted with plastics etc. It does have a lot of trees and birds so better than nothing in the big city if you’re a local but I wouldn’t recommend a special trip to it.

Holly D The playground itself really needs a replacement, it’s rusted and really not so safe for kids to play on. The green space is nice behind it and some picnic tables are there as well.

Roe Robson Its really nice and very close to everything. A lot of shade but sunny spots too. It would be nice if there were 1 or 2 more tables but oh well. Very relaxing

Tim James Engaging park for over four-year-olds great climbing frame something to spin on with water and a rubbish bin. Picnic table and picnic platform lots of trees for fun games.

Nat Newly renovated playground since July 2023. Has an epic climbing frame dome, two swings, seesaw, cubby house, small balancing log set up surrounded by a scooter track under dappled sunlight. Lots of grassed, open areas with benches, a bubbler and easy street parking. A great local option.

Imges Avondale Dam

(20) Reviews Avondale Dam:

John McLennan The dam is covered in grafitti and the place is pretty overgrown. Not much in the way of views. Some access points that Google suggests are not accessible. I entered off the Commenara Pkwy.
2 /5
Cameron Wilson Interesting place to visit for curious locals, the poorly maintained track which is littered with plastic rubbish and the smell of leaking sewer pipes can be accessed from the comenarra parkway. Once you reach the wall you are presented with, wait for it!!... a concrete wall. Nothing much to see, the area around the dam is fenced off and the foliage is dense.
2 /5
Ernie Shepherd Creepy place to be honest . Not worth the walk
1 /5
Rick L Ugly, graffitid, fenced, rusty barbed wired dam. Not worth the overgrown path walk to see it.
2 /5
Angosturas Cast Avondale Dam (the wall) can be accessed off Comenarra Parkway, West Pymble via a walking track which is not marked. Not a lot to see as the upper part of the dam is fenced off. Graffiti over some of the wall. To access the dam, there is a tract of land at the end of Pembroke Ave...no actual track and be prepared to trek through ferns. Lots of birdlife.
