3 /5 C K: The pricing model and what you get for the price is great - new equipment, good cardio range and a small but decent weights area.
I have to give it 3 stars for a few reasons, which hopefully can be rectified:
- almost nobody wipes down the equipment after use. Iāve been many times, and while there are wipes well placed around the gym, not a single person uses them. There are no reminders like you would find at more premium gyms, but still, itās basic gym protocol. Also hardly anyone uses a towel either. The whole thing make it feel less than sanitary despite being a brand newly refurbished gym. Management - please fix this promptly.
- there are more people using their phones streaming something while sitting on the equipment, than actually using the equipment. Iāve been a member of many gyms all over Sydney and I have to say visiting this one was the most extraordinary in terms of clientele not working out / being lazy. One guy was actually barefoot, watching YouTube, sitting on some resistance workout like it was his lounge room. Again, just creates a āvibeā about the gym that feels neither professional nor motivating.
- The hordes of high school boys at various times, especially after school hours, congregating around the equipment and using the equipment in a way that feels dangerous. Iām talking swinging around free weights, with no proper instruction or use, a risk to both themselves and others using the free area, sometimes in groups of 10-20. They like to high five each other in their school uniforms. They arenāt menacing, but they have no idea what theyāre doing and certainly arenāt wiping equipment or respecting othersā space when there.
- staff just sit at reception, when theyre even there at all, sitting so low they canāt see anything, with absolutely zero to do. Theyāre friendly, but not at all proactive.
Itās more the ācultureā of the gym than the equipment itself but it does grate when you go to workout and youāre experience feels 1/5 from others.
Iād love to see signs with clear expectations to wipe down equipment after use, wear covered SHOES while working out, and reminders on safety of equipment use. It just seems like a lot of clients sorely need it. Hopefully this will vastly improve the gym experience.
