1 /5 Guido: I visited Zomels today, and once again, I left deeply upset. Tomorrow is my wedding day, and what should have been a joyful experience has been nothing but disappointing. I received an engagement ring that was too big for my size. When we went to the store to see what could be done, they only offered to resize it by two sizes, even though they knew that wouldn’t be enough. Despite this, they still recommended it as the only option.
Later, I returned with my mom and stepdad to look at wedding bands. One of the staff asked a highly inappropriate and offensive question, questioning whether my mom’s husband was really my father simply because my mom has a darker skin tone than I do. Both my mom and I felt deeply hurt and offended by this intrusive and unnecessary remark. It was completely uncalled for and had no place in our interaction.
Today, I went back to ask if I could exchange my ring. The staff member I spoke to was incredibly rude and dismissive, addressing my fiancé as if I were a child and speaking to me in a condescending tone. Frustrated, I started speaking to my fiancé in my native language, Portuguese, as it’s easier for me to express myself that way. The staff member then rudely interrupted, telling me to speak in English and accusing me of “talking behind her back,” which was both offensive and untrue.
I have every right to speak my native language, especially when I’m in a vulnerable situation and trying to communicate my feelings. Her behavior left me feeling belittled, disrespected, and on the verge of tears. What should have been a special moment—choosing a symbol of eternal love—was ruined by the insensitivity and unprofessionalism of this store.
I’m heartbroken by this experience. Instead of feeling excited and cherished during this meaningful time, I was left with feelings of frustration and disgust. I would never recommend this store to anyone.
