5 /5 Cordelia: A pocket of peaceful bushland on Sydney’s lower North Shore teeming with birds. I’ve been doing this walk for years and always find something new.
Highlights:
- a tree that’s grown around a Triumph engine
- the sound of whip birds
- hidden overgrown staircase that leads to the harbour where you can sit on a rock and watch the cormorants dive
- see if you can spot the eels swimming in the creek
- the view of the city from the stairs up to Greenwich
- catching a glimpse of the male superb fairy wren’s cute little blue face
- spotting the resident powerful owl and tawny frog mouth families
- the sound of the creek, which is like a cliche babbling brook with water flowing over rocks
- chatting to friendly fellow walkers and their dogs.
Enter via Russel St to get the full length of the walk. Wear sturdy shoes as it can be slippery in parts. When you reach the end, turn right to go to Berry Island reserve where you’ll find bubblers and public toilets.
