5 /5 Sandra Guy: Great place to see a daytime camp of magnificent grey-headed flying-foxes, or fruit bats, in the warmer months. This is the largest fruit bat in Australia with a wing span of up to one metre. The camp is usually occupied between about September or October thru to May, depending on temperatures. Their numbers are falling significantly so this species is listed as vulnerable to extinction. They are a keystone umbrella species, performing an essential, nocturnal pollination role that no other species provides. If we lose these guys, there will be a cascade of extinction as many thousands of other species need the native forest tree species these guys pollinate and keep healthy.
