Kay Roq If you live around Altona it is a brilliant way to spend the afternoon after a late brunch at a local cafe. Ken was amazing and very knowledgeable around the reserve and its historical significance.

Debi Slinger The Truganina Explosives Reserve is an interesting place in Altona and well worth a visit when they are open - which isnt often. The building itself is still owned by the government and listed for heritage. It was originally in operation in the turn of the last century to around 1962 and was built to store explosives for the mining and construction industry. It still has plenty of sheds but the jetty is no longer there although you can still see the narrow-gauge railway line at the rear of the property along the walking/cycling path. Over the years there has been some discoveries of the first nations people residing in the area with stone artifacts dating back 6,500 years. Its interesting that the name of Truganini is the name of the last true Aboriginal Tasmania (1812-1876) and wa the daughter of the tribal elder Mananga of the Aborignes of Bruny Island.

Charlie Lear Check the website or facebook for opening times - usually 1-4pm on the first Sunday of the month. Guided tours leave on the hour, hosted by members of the reserves Preservation Society. Our guide was knowledgable and the walk through the reserve was absolutely fascinating. A huge part of Altonas history and one that most of us have driven past and always wondered what was behind the corrugated fencing. Stop wondering and go have a look - its well worth doing so!

Rachel Bailey Great place to visit! Spent quite a while just wandering around or you can take a guided tour if you want too.

Jarrod Bell A retarding basin as part of the local stormwater system created in partnership with Melbourne water in the local council. By turning this into a wetlands, they have created a wonderful ecosystem for birds wildlife and flora, also creating a great place for the community to come exercise. Spend time with each other and enjoying nature. The path around the outside of the lake is grateful, walking, jogging or running, and is wide enough to be shared by those on wheels too. Well worth a visit if you’re looking for a place to kill some time.

Winston Ng Great local park and lake for long walks (with a pet if you have one) or to jog. Going counter clockwise from the carpark avoids the crowds. A fair bit of bird life along the lake for the keen feathered watchers
5 /5
JP Beautiful small little park. Lake is huge. Two unisex flushable toilets. Playground on site. We didnt go right around this lake, but by the entry, a few people were fishing, sonwe dropped lines here. I see this lake has a few carps. We didnt catch any, as we didnt stay more than 15 minutes.
5 /5
John Locke A large lake with many birds. Large area of grassland for you to sunbathe or just sleep. You can also read books or listen to the sounds of the birds and lake. People also enjoy running, cycling and fishing. Prepare sunscreen, insect repellent and sunglasses.

Betty Bird Love this park and its walking tracks. So close to funky Altona Shops the wonderful new pier and the beach. My old childhood haunt. Definitely worth a visit.

Debi Slinger Nice part of Altona with lots to see, particularly nice to walk around the beach. Great views to the city. Signage is good. Toilets available. Close to a few shops. This is a nature tail is some aspects. Expect to see people with dogs and in warmer months - possibly snakes. Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly my. Good carparking.
5 /5
Stephen Ramplin Large off leash dog beach. Plenty of car parking spaces. 2 tables and benches for picnics. Ample grass area for dogs to run around. Free dog tidy bags available, but sometimes runs out. Needs some taps with dog bowls for drinking and washing sand off feet. No undercover areas to protect from rain or sun. Distant views of the city. 3-5 mins walk from car to water.
4 /5
carlos ayuso las lenguas The level of stupidity of this park is beyond crazy. They used chicken wire fencing to protect some plants right on the middle of an off-leash dog park. Dogs run. They don’t care about nice plants. Dogs keep running in to the fence as it’s really thin. I already sent a complaint to the council last time my dog gut hurt:

Allison Brear We dont usually go to the beach area during busy times but we do enjoy our little quiet corner. We have been coming here for 9yrs and the update to the park contrary to many others is really good.

Kerbray A nice short walk in this reserve. Birds can be seen on the offshore islands in numbers and theres an off leash are for dogs. Theres walking and cycling paths too, and its pretty close to the shops in Altona (about 1km away). Its quite a large reserve and great for an afternoon break!

Debi Slinger What a fabulous park for the public. Known for its off lead area for dogs, it also has other great reasons to visit: close to beach, birdwatching, walking/cycling paths, close to Altona shops (1km east) and much more. Its large and spacious with plenty of room for everyone. Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly (playground nearby). Good parking on the north side. Well worth a visit.
5 /5
Anuj B It has a huge off leash dog park. Beautiful scenic views of the coastline along the walk. Good place for birdwatching too.
5 /5
Braya Fraza This reserve is terrible. There is no grass only weeds and dirt, so many dead rabbits too. No facilities whatsoever, there are way better reserves out there.

Sonny Another beautiful and peaceful beach to go for a walk. Majority of the area is actually inaccessible due to being conservation ground for either plants or migratory seabirds. Still, the paths designed for walking was great for watching the birds from afar and listening to the waves. Id actually recommend Jawbone marine sanctuary and that area more as there are much more paths to walk.
5 /5
John Locke Very appealing! There are many streams, ponds and a long coastal line. Too bad the water level of some streams and ponds are low because it hasn’t rained for days. Very relaxing but the sunshine is strong and there are many flies and insects. The winds are cool and balances the sun burning today. Some insects get to my eyes, ears, arms and noses. So, apply insect repellent, sunscreen, wear sunglasses and a cap. There are many birds. Some are big and some birds families live here. The fish swim in the sea. Few of them go into the shallow water. You can go fishing, jogging, cycling and hiking here. Not very good for sunbathing or picnicking lunch because of the flies.
5 /5
Michelle Keating Needs a little maintenance on some of the gates, or rather the springs to keep them closed, but terrific sizes paddocks and lots of space to run your dogs
4 /5
Debi Slinger Nice park close to Altona township but remote enough to feel you’re away from everything. Plenty of wide open spaces and much of the area is used by cyclists, walkers, joggers and dog owners as it’s good for off leash. Shared paths so watch out for each other. Note that in warmer weather there are sometimes snakes around but rare to come across one. The flora and fauna is good. Lots of birds here so if you’re a twitcher you’ll enjoy this place. City views. Relatively flat, ideal for wheelchair access. Kid friendly with a playground nearby. Toilets also near the yacht club.
5 /5
Duggan Adam (BluajeMarketing) Great open areas, suited to experienced drone pilots. Nice beaches for dog walking, clean cycle path and nicely maintained walking trails. This park has an abundance of wildlife, especially birds. A great family place, nice views. Whilst the park is very open, it would likely get windy in poor weather, and there is little protection from the wind here.

Maggie Webber I so love living here...its the best. Beach on my doorstep, great cafes and bars. And a wonderful, friendly community of people living here too.

CV Vy The new altona pier is stunning! The council did such a great job with all the lights, especially at night. They’ve extended it well and made sure to include a lot of groovings all along the metal handrails to help with the fishing rods! (Make sure you pay for a fishing license if you want to fish!) Great catches here, lots of fish! It gets quite cold out at Altona Pier, make sure to bring your cozy jackets!
5 /5
Hayden Nice place for relaxing and fishing. But we did not get any as there were many weeds. There is a bbq area nearby and a basic toilet facility. You can go for a walk and explore the area. Alot of kids were jumping off the pier and enjoy swimming. It would get very busy during the warm days plus parking can be tricky over there.
4 /5
Stacey Carnovale Was a great morning paddling in the shallow waters, life savers were on duty and the sand was clean and soft. Toilet facilities, food and drinks were all close by which made saying in placeveasy and kuds could eat on the beach.

Lech Sedkowski Pleasant experience. Very nice beach, boardwalk, and adjacent park.

Cath Connor Advertised as open on their website but closed when we got there. Apparently the volunteers did not arrive. I would phone to check with the organisers if you are planning a visit. I think it’s a pretty casually organised museum.

Debi Slinger Perfect spot for a picnic with the family or friends. Across the road is Logan Reserve which has had a recent upgrade with toilets, playground for all ages, tables, chairs and more. In Weaver Resege you can play ball and toss a frisbee (just). Small cafe called Norfolk on the edge of the park. The pier is across the road and it’s 300m from road to the end. Parking is pretty good but can be more challenging in warmer days. Very kid friendly. Toilets close by at Logan Reserve across the road. Shops are nearby for the usual fish and chips plus supermarket and all other amenities up Pier Street. Wheelchair friendly.
5 /5
Lilly Ah Fua A great place for families and friends. There is a park for the little kids and a place to do a picnic. There are restaurants nearby
5 /5
Mauricio Brunstein This is a nice place to spend some time with friends, sharing a barbecue. The children have a very good place to play, and has the plus of beautiful views of the sunset over the coast. When I was the cleaning of the restrooms was not the best, but I think that this could change and is a matter of luck.
3 /5
Thomas Liontis Decent park, not far from the beach and shops, although having more places to sit down could be bettter

Ellani Keirl Took my 2yr old for a play and he loved it. Great range of play equipment for skill development. He particularly enjoyed all the slides and climbing wall. I was pleased with the layout. Multiple swings and slides was definitely a plus considering how busy it was.
