1 /5 Jaber Moudir: After paying for a half-court session indoors to play basketball, we naturally began to overheat from running and some of us removed our shirts due to excessive sweating. Near the end of our session, one of their employees who seemed to be Indian or Sri Lankan background, claimed to be a manager, approached us in an unnecessarily aggressive and rude manner, demanding that we put our shirts back on. His comment that this is a community facility, “not the streets,” was extremely offensive and felt like a racial slur directed at us.
What made the situation worse was the complete lack of courtesy or warning beforehand. In the six years we have been using this facility, we have never experienced such disrespectful behavior from staff. Rather than handling the situation with professionalism, This person then returned with a pen and paper, attempting to force us into writing feedback immediately, which we politely declined in order to finish our game. Another staff member later spoke to us but offered no accountability for their employees conduct, nor any form of apology.
This incident left us feeling disrespected, unfairly targeted, and deeply disappointed with the way paying members of the community were treated.
