Nigretta Falls
Sai krishna Naralasetty I recently visited Nigretta Falls, located about 16 km west of Hamilton, Victoria. The falls feature a multi-tiered cascade over ancient rhyolitic rock formations, creating a unique geological landscape. An easy 100-meter walk from the car park leads to a viewing platform, making it accessible for most visitors.
However, during my visit, the water flow was minimal due to recent dry conditions. While the rock formations and surrounding scenery are still beautiful, the falls are most impressive after significant rainfall, typically later in the winter season.
Please note that as of May 2025, the stairs and viewing platform at Nigretta Falls are undergoing replacement due to damage sustained in the 2022 floods. The Southern Grampians Shire Council has initiated a $615,651 project to upgrade these facilities, with completion expected by early 2025. The new structures will feature modern, lightweight materials to ensure durability and accessibility .

If youre in the Hamilton area, its worth a quick stop, especially if youre already visiting nearby attractions like Wannon Falls. But for those traveling solely to see the waterfall in full flow, I recommend timing your visit after heavy rains to fully appreciate its beauty
