4 /5 Debi Slinger: A popular pier for fishing but clearly for mooring boats as well. It was lovely to see small groups of kids with their rods, bait and buckets, heading down for an afternoon of angling. Their joyous laughter and tales of previous trips filled the still air.
Views out over the bay can be glorious as they were today. A large container ship was headed in to dock and sucked up all the vista of Melbourne high rises. An elderly man walked his dog to the end and sat on the bench, near two people who looked settled in for the day with their rods. Looking into the water, you can see the occasional fish and I spotted a bream and puffer fish. Along with the black swans and seagulls who tend to stay close to shore where people feed them. Please don’t do that!
The boats, yachts, dinghy’s and more are eye catching. Some
Of the bigger boats are worth 100’s of 1000’s of dollars.
History: Built in 1924 for the ferry ‘Rosny’, Ferguson Street Pier. There was once a shelter shed on the pier for passengers waiting for the ferry, but local vandalism meant the windows were regularly smashed and the shed didn’t last too long.
Disabled friendly, wheelchair friendly.
The pier is easy to locate and there is plenty of parking. Note that it’s $5 per hour!
There are toilets nearby. Dogs allowed on leash, even a water fountain for them. Plenty of places to eat as well.
