Woolrich Lookout

Ruwi MK Lovely place! It’s actually called “great gardens of Dandenong”!! Very scenic. On a clear day you can see the view of the skies, mountains and the city. Great place for family photographs. For wedding photographers you got to take permission. There are trails if you’ll like you explore the area. Parking is available

Glenfern Valley Bushlands

Thirsty Herb Had a very pleasant walk through here today, around 6km (Explored some side trails) but it has a little of bit of everything. Pretty little Creek running through the Valley, hills to climb, nice flat sections with wide paths and plenty of wildlife. (Watch for Snakes). Bit shout out to "Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushlands" who do a fantastic job of keeping the Reserve clean and tidy.

Silvan Dam Lookout

Artur Kats Have a lunch here enjoying the view, then go to Sky High for some coffee (entrance fee applies), and then head to the Dandenon Ranges Botanical Gardens (closes at 5pm) for a walk. Perfect plan for a good time.

The Boathouse

Wai Yin Lai The Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens are one of my favourite places. The boathouse is picturesque, the lake peaceful. The gardens are lovely all year round, different flowers our in different seasons. Highly recommend. If theres a downside, it would be signage. Ad there is a 5pm closing time, better signs and distances to exit would be helpful. Maybe even a map at main points like the rhododendron gardens further up the hill.

Pirianda Garden

Anita Harris Thoroughly beautiful, particularly in Autumn. A variety of trails head down, up and around the park (be prepared for a moderate uphill walk to return to the carpark) and it is all beautiful. In fact a few spots are simply stunning. Paths and occasional stairs were in good condition when I visited, and there was some terrific fungi here and there. There are toilets (including a disabled toilet), a medium sized gravel carpark and a small gazebo. If there hasnt been too much rain, the ground toward the top may be nice for a picnic, and there is a picnic table near the entry point.

Cardinia Reservoir Park (Parks Victoria)

loveleen Kaur Beautiful park with stunning views over the reservoir! Great walking trails, especially the Kangaroo Viewing Trail where we saw heaps of kangaroos in the evening. Plenty of picnic spots with BBQs and clean toilets. Perfect for a relaxing day out in nature. Just remember to bring your own rubbish bags as there are no bins. Highly recommend for families or anyone wanting a peaceful escape close to Melbourne.

SkyHigh Mount Dandenong

Koonthos Koonthus hazy beauty, characteristic of a sunset or sunrise viewed from an elevated vantage point. In the foreground, the dark silhouettes of trees create a textured edge, their forms softened by the distance and the atmospheric perspective. Beyond the trees, a vast expanse of land stretches out, gradually fading into a soft, muted palette of grays and browns. The air seems thick with a light mist or perhaps the remnants of the days heat, obscuring the details of the landscape below and lending an ethereal quality to the view. In the far distance, a faint suggestion of a city skyline emerges from the haze. The buildings appear as delicate, almost dreamlike shapes on the horizon, their presence a subtle reminder of human activity amidst the grandeur of nature. The sky above is a gradient of soft, warm tones. To the right, the light is more intense, hinting at the suns recent presence or imminent arrival, casting a gentle golden glow. This light gradually softens towards the left, blending into pale blues and creams, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. The overall impression is one of peacefulness and quiet contemplation. The hazy distance softens the harshness of the world, inviting the viewer to appreciate the subtle beauty of the landscape and the gentle transition of light across the sky. Its a moment captured in time, where the vastness of nature meets the delicate touch of light and atmosphere.
