Mel Tyler and Jaimie have created such a fantastic gym. It was a great pleasure to make this my regular 7am spot, and even over a year after having moved, I still miss it. Happy to see its thriving - cant imagine it wouldnt have gone on to do so well, with all the effort and passion poured into it.

Miwa Termonen My children are competitive athletes, so I’ve been looking for a fitness gym for them. However, there are no gyms accepting children under 16Y. Finally, I found FitKids online. Circuit training, boxing, battle rope etc.... lots of fun and unique physical training. This place is exactly what we were looking for! Very friendly active coach(s) making trainings engaging and enjoyable as well as teaching correct technique. My children are enjoying the class 100%!

John Mayers I’ve been training with Rohan at Body Matrix for the past 6 months, and at 42 I can honestly say I’m the fittest I’ve ever been in my life. Rohan is an awesome trainer and mentor who knows how to push you while keeping it supportive and motivating. The whole team at Body Matrix are incredibly supportive personal trainers who genuinely care about your progress. Hands down the best gym in South Melbourne, highly recommend!

DANIEL Turner The best gym in Melbourne by far, a real workout space with old school vibes, clean, EVERY machine works perfectly, lots of machines you would not find anywhere else (maybe golds gym Venice beach lol) On top of that Rohan will push you to get the results you want no matter what your goal is, i have improved more in 6 months than i did in years training with purpose at Body Matrix. The best kept secret in Melbourne for people who love to train :)

Cara M I love going here, so many classes to choose from. Friendly and knowledgeable instructors who actively guide you and will adjust the workout to ensure you get the most out of it, without exacerbating existing injuries. I’ve been to Pilates studios all over the world and this one is the best I’ve found! My only critique would be the app has no way to view the history of past packages purchased/attendance/classes missed, which would be nice, but it is a franchise so that’s not an aspect handled by the studio itself.

Taryn Craig I absolutely love this gym! It’s focused purely on strength training, which is exactly what my husband and I were looking for. The 4:1 training style is amazing — it’s the only program we’ve ever truly stuck with. We’ve been going consistently since November 2024, four days a week, and we still look forward to every session. The trainers are excellent — professional, supportive, and especially great for those of us over 40. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly!

The small group training format is game changing, it brings together likeminded, goal driven members while being guided by some of Melbourne’s most knowledgeable and experienced trainers. Alex has created something special here. The gym is always spotless, the equipment is perfectly organised, and the layout makes every session seamless. The culture is motivating, the results speak for themselves, and the location is phenomenal. If you’re serious about taking your health and fitness to the next level, I couldn’t recommend 4D Gym more highly.

Gabriella Francis 5/5 all round!! The facilities are excellent, and there are always thoughtful touches that make the space feel cosy and welcoming (like the scented candles, herbal tea etc). The range of on-demand classes is fantastic, and when the live classes and challenges occur they are a great source of motivation. Most importantly, the staff are outstanding - from the owners, to manager Kate and the whole team. I especially appreciate that some staff are qualified Pilates instructors, offering extra support and expertise. Ive truly found a gem in South Melbourne - this place has been a space of health and healing for my mind, body, and soul.

Emily Chapple 98 South Melbourne is hands down the best gym I’ve ever been to. The facilities are top notch, and the programming is so intentional - it genuinely supports progress no matter what level you’re starting at. The coaching team is second to none: supportive, knowledgeable, and always delivering feedback in a kind and encouraging way. What makes this place truly special, though, is the community. The culture here is incredibly inclusive, supportive, and full of fun - it feels like training with family. A huge part of that comes from Em’s leadership as manager. Em sets the tone with her warmth, energy, and ability to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and inspired. If you’re looking for a gym that challenges you, supports you, and surrounds you with amazing people, 98 South Melbourne is the place.

Alannah Milne By far the best gym in Melbourne. I’ve been training at 98 for two years now, and I can honestly say there isn’t a single day I haven’t looked forward to coming in. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and always encouraging, no matter where you are in your fitness journey. What truly sets 98 apart is the community - it’s one of the most inclusive, supportive, and uplifting environments I’ve ever been a part of. Whether youre brand new or experienced, youre welcomed with open arms and made to feel part of the team from day one. I couldn’t recommend this gym enough!

Mathew Gelsumini The atmosphere at the south Melbourne campus is top notch. Being surrounded by fitness really fills you with confidence to achieve everything you want to with your studies. All trainers bring a special spice to there teachings which keeps it fresh and exciting (as if that was a problem). I wish I had more time, and could make more use of all the facilities you get when being a student here.

On the flip side, as an outdoor setup, it has minimal shelter so weather can affect your workout and some pieces may be more basic compared to indoor gyms. All up, it’s a handy and well-situated option for a quick fitness session in South Melbourne.
